On 6/21/2013, 12 Gamers boarded their bus for their 2013 Tournament Tour. The first leg of the tour is the BCS 16u Perfect Game Finals Tourney in Fort Myers, Florida. Their first game is scheduled for 6/28 @ 11:30am. This gave the team plenty of time to make some stops along the way. First stop was Duke University in Durham, NC. While there they visited the campus and learned a little bit about Fitness and Nutrition from one of the University’s trainers.
Second stop along the way was a visit to the home of the Dolphins at Jacksonville University. There the team enjoyed a workout for the coaching staff and a visit to the clubhouse.
Upon the Gamer’s arrival in Fort Myers, they wasted little time getting ready. The team has been practicing every chance they get, including a practice at the Red Sox spring training facility, Jet Blue Park. And when the weather didn’t allow them on a field, they did their conditioning in a Target parking lot (yes it’s true).
The Gamers finished both tournaments with a 3-6-2 record which included 1 loss by more than 2 runs and a dramatic walk-off HR by Drew Harmon and a 10k pitching performance from Tim Cate.
It was pitching and hitting that were the keys for the Gamers. Timely hitting and clutch pitching pushed the Gamers directly to the championship game. They had a few obstacles to overcome as well. A slimmed down roster and the heat. With each day in the 90’s the Gamer still prevailed only to fall short in a 3-0 loss to finish second.
To conclude the tournament tour for this summer the Gamers contended in the 17U Wood Bat World Series Tournament at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ. There the Gamers finished with an impressive 3-1 record suffering their only loss, 4-3, to the team that won their bracket.
